Cookie Consent Notice in the Areeb Theme: Edit, Link and Turn Off
Edit the cookie consent notice in the Areeb Blogger theme: change the text, link your privacy policy, or turn the notice off.
The theme comes with a cookie notice built in. It appears in the corner the first time someone visits, and disappears once they accept. You can change its text, add a link to your privacy policy, or turn it off, all from the Layout page, without touching code.
What readers see
A small box in the bottom corner with three parts:
| Part | Default text | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Message | We use Cookies to understand your preferences… | Tells readers why the site uses cookies. |
| Checkbox | Don't remind me. | If ticked, the notice stays hidden for a year instead of 21 days. |
| Button | Okay, I get it. | Hides the notice and remembers the choice. |
The notice is light: no extra scripts or files, and it never moves the page while it loads. After a reader accepts, it isn't even added to the page on later visits.
Change the text
- Open LayoutIn Blogger, go to Layout and scroll down to the Extras area.
- Edit the gadgetClick the pencil on Cookie consent. You'll see a list with three items.
- Write your textChange the Site Name of each item. The first is the message, the second is the checkbox label, the third is the button. Leave each Site URL as
#. - SaveClick Save, then open your blog in a private window to see the change.
Keep the three items in the same order, and don't delete the # in the Site URL. Blogger drops items with an empty address.
Add a link to your privacy policy
The message can hold a link. Write it as HTML in the first item's Site Name:
We use cookies to improve your experience and show ads. Read our <a href="/p/privacy.html">Privacy Policy</a>.
Create the page first in Pages › New page, and use its address in the link.
Turn it off or on
- Turn off: open the Cookie consent gadget and delete all three items, then save. The theme shows nothing when the list is empty.
- Turn on again: add the three items back in the same order, each with
#as the address.
The gadget is locked, so it can't be removed by mistake. Emptying its list is the way to switch it off.
See it again after accepting
Once you accept, your browser remembers it, so you won't see the notice on your own blog. To check your changes, open the blog in a private or incognito window, or clear the cookie named __permit for your site.
How long the choice lasts
| Reader's choice | Notice hidden for |
|---|---|
| Clicks the button | 21 days |
| Ticks "Don't remind me." and clicks the button | 1 year |
Is it enough for ads in Europe?
The notice informs readers, but it doesn't ask for consent in the formal way the law requires in the EU, UK and Switzerland. If you show AdSense ads to readers there, turn on Google's own consent message in AdSense › Privacy & messaging. It handles the legal consent for ads.
When you use Google's message, you can switch this notice off, or keep it as a short, friendly note for everyone else.
Quick reference
